the smaller the diameter the higher the head loss. with increasing head loss the collector heats up too much and energy losses are the consequence. if too hot material (pex) may fail. re# copper coil: if copper coil=heat exchanger and tank pressurized, then OK, else: think about the discharge curve (very hot initially, rapid cooling effect, inert convection in tank, ...chinese setup). have solved the problem in connecting the copper coil to my old electric geyser serving as buffer tank. before doing that people were just regulating water flows and not showering.
