I had planned to use Vinyl windows with a brickmold on the exterior and a J-return on the interior. Then, I was going to use 3/4" plywood as a liner, with some kind of a window sill at 3/4".

I am tweaking the window sizes such that the finished interior opening will accomodate standard off-the-shelf blinds and window treatments.

Is plywood an appropriate window liner material? Any suggestions for the window sill? We are going for an Arts&Crafts theme for the trim in the house.

Thanks.

Brian.

Brian:

I used 1/2 inch birch plywood from the cabinet shop that made my cabinets. I had them stain and rip them for the proper width and leave them in 8 ft. lengths. Just remember that when you put your trim on the casing, you won't have a reveal, since you probably won't want to show the plywood edge. Looks great with the stained and finsihed trim and casement both professionally completed at the cabinet shop and installed by a transplanted retired cop from California.
