Has anyone used any Serious Materials windows before? I am looking at their 925 series for my next home, but I haven't ever seen any in real life, unlike Pellas, Marvins, and Andersons which I have seen dozens of. Anyone who has seen/installed them, please comment on their quality, operability, and ease of installation.

Looks like they bought out Alpen windows. I emailed them for more info. How did Alpen compare price-wise to Marvin Integrity, Fibertech, Thermotech, etc??

Look closely at the specs for the windows that you will actually purchase. If I remember right, R11 was for a fixed window only. Operational windows had much lower R-values.

I have obtained a Serious Windows brochure and spoken with them on the phone. The 925 series in a casement window have a U of .16-.18, so that's an R of I think 6 or so. Not R-11 but better than any other USA made window. They blow the doors off of a Marvin or even H-Window. All fiberglass frames with foam core. They look SWEET - and the rep gave me ballpark pricing at $55/sf for the 925 casements. I have not compared it to Marvin, etc yet for pricing - anyone have any info other window brands?

I'm looking at fiberglass windows and have requested a quote from Inline, Serious Materials and Thermotech fiberglass windows these seem to have the best R and U values I've found. I haven't any pricing yet to compare.

R11 is their 1125 series - fixed. 1125 series casement/awning/patio doors have an r value of 7.1 (.14 u value). Their technical specs for all of their window lines are on their website.

That window costs an arm and leg too.

My friend called on them and it was in the 2K+ range.

Much better ways to spend money. You can get an U-Factor window down in the 0.15 range pretty cheaply.

Blackhatch - name some names for a cheap 0.15 U window......

Okna 500, Starmark, Soft-Lite Elements, Imperial LS are all vinyl options.

I know that vinyl has some bad, albeit inaccurate and overblown, press.
