OK, just include the costs for the low leakage windows along with your analysis of how much energy is saved by reducing the leakage from 0.3 to 0.01 cfm/ft^2. While you are doing your calculations, also provide the heating loss rates for windows with U = 0.3, 0.2, and 0.1 Btu/(hr * ft^2). We are anxiously awaiting the results of your calculations! |

We all know that the lower leakage windows cost more.
Why is the above an absolute statement? I've priced out a lot of windows and some lower leakage windows were priced LESS than the higher leakage windows.
A faulty premise results in a faulty analysis and conclusion.
Wow. Anything to keep from answering the question. |

Lee you will never get an answer to your question since it actually involves calculated facts vs "I read or heard" along with made up % numbers. |

Lbear - Might the cooling costs increase with a lower U value window because this window does not let as much heat out at night ? (Assuming windows are closed while occupants sleep). If it is 60 degrees at night and the house sits at 72 degrees then a low U value window will not let heat out of the house so the AC will have to run more. Someone here also stated that the return on Geo is a long payback. For me it was 2.7 years with the tax credit. Regular HVAC cost 16 k. Geo with DSH was 32. So I was 16k in the hole initially. The tax credit of 30% was 0.3 x 32 = 9,600. So after the tax credit I was only 6,400 (16,000 - 9,600) in the hole. I save 2,300 per year on heat - cool - and hot water. 6,400 / 2,300 = 2.78 years. We probably shouldn't make blanket statements about "this doesn't pay well" or whatever - the numbers work out differently of course for different situations with different heating degree days and different utility rates. For me Geo had a very short payback.

That would be like saying that it's better to have a poorly insulated wall or roof because it traps the conditioned air inside the home instead of letting it leak out the walls and roof. If that were true then insulating walls and roofs is a waste of time and money. Of course we know that the opposite is true. RESFEN is flawed, plain and simple. Running a real program like PHPP or others like it will yield more accurate results. Remember, it's a free government software program. Government agencies aren't known for being well run and economical. Their budgets are massive and their spending is even bigger. Waste and government are synonymous, most of the time, but that is another topic for another day. |

Maybe, if I keep slamming the government program one more time for emphasis, and just add more words which says nothing, then hopefully, people will forget me providing any math to the discussion. |

Your above words and phrases clearly demonstrate your frame of mind and character. You constantly use vulgarity and personal attacks and then sit on the sidelines throwing bombs, trying to rouse me by being antagonistic. You are not worthy of responding to but I will respond one last time. People can disagree on topics but your disagreements turns into vulgar personal attacks, which I don't care for, therefore I ignore your childish behavior and comments. I will go back to placing you on ignore. |

Seeing as we can't get numbers from others. It is now comically funny how he just won't answer any direct question. Amazing.
Anyways, for my windows, one thing that I was offered was a 3rd seal. When I was deciding between dual pane and triple pane, the additional cost was too high compared to the return on investment. However, the benefit of the 3rd seal was viewed as improving noise reduction which is much harder to decide with regards to return on investment. I didn't have to decide because it was offered to us in our negotiations. Because it was offered for "free", I presume it must not cost too much, so that might be something to ask when you are looking at windows. I am not sure if adding more seals is an option for all window companies. I didn't know about it myself, until he offered it. Another option I was offered was a wider profile, and so in essence better performance because the the thermal break between the aluminum became greater.

Titanio top has the wider profile, and titanio is the standard profile.
when i use the chrome browser, it asks if i want to translate from italian to english, firefox doesn't do it automatically, and i am not sure how to do it.

I guess I can't complain about your consistency. Never answer anyone's questions. Babble about whatever to distract the reader. Use a useless thread to somehow make this seem more relevant. Ignoring what you write. I think it is funny now. Looking back, I should never have gotten so worked up about someone who thinks like you do or lack thereof. |
