Hi, I am looking to build a place in Colorado at 8500'. I am told that the new "painted" vinyl colors don't do well here. What other options do I have besides aluminum? How does the fiberglass hold up in the high mountain sun? Thanks

The actual material the window is made out of shouldn't matter excessively as modern materials tech for windows that aren't "the cheapo specials" is generally pretty good.

They SHOULD, however, be manufactured with high-altitude deployment in mind.
Most windows constructed at lower elevations will see excessive pressures between the individual panes.
This will, eventually, lead to a leaky window.

Some places will manufacture high altitude windows with capillary tubes to allow for equalization of pressure between the panes.
Once on-site, these tubes can be crimped off.

The problem is that these windows can develop moisture issues between the panes that severely limits the product's lifespan.

Possibly look into windows that are locally manufactured to avoid the issue altogether.

Alpen Windows, outside of Denver ising capillary tubes attached to mylar balloons ns, that you cut off and crimp. In addition, they have triple and quad pane, and the frames are fiberglass. They also will provide coatings for low/high solar gain, something that the big guys don’t like to do. Prices on my triple pane were less that Marvin’s double pane. When I asked Marvin to optimize the solar gain, the price doubled. When I asked why, they said it was because there were few customers for that. Yeah, I understand when you double the price.

Funny how customers shy away when you attempt to PRICE GOUGE them.
It's just this huge mystery!
