Below are images from SAC construction in Calgary, Alberta. They have been using Fastfoot to form their commercial pads since 2009.

Take a look at their project page. This explains why forming concrete with fabric is the most effecient and green way to go.

Fastfoot: 4 times lighter

One thing they don't mention is the thermal coupling of the soil/footing/wall/columns. A cool concrete surface in a warm, humid building is a great way to create mold. Or lose btus in the winter. I'm going to guess that a straight and rigid plywood form is much easier to line with low cost rigid foam.

Im with you on that one Jon. A straight plywood form makes it allot easier to insulate. Spray foam is such an expensive option. But in this instance, the pads are going to be 3' below both the soil and the slab. So insulating them doesn't make a bunch of sense.

I think it has been well proven that in cold climates, concrete even 8' below the ground and near the perimeter should be insulated.
