I have been musing a while on a simple bAloon framed house using advance framing and roxul to make it fairly efficient with less thermal bridging and I have a fiew questions I don't know.
Does Simpson make a joist hanger that attaches to a vertical stud? Like their normal ones without the sides folded back?
If the span is 22' outside to outside, I could make a 2x8 rafter work but what would be te cheapest way to get good insulation in the cieling? A dropped 2x6 joist with a space between? Or a trusses or I joist? If I dropped the vaulted ceiling joist to make a 6" gap I could use 3 layers of the wall insulation, have r66 and ventilation above the ceiling. This Ppeals to me for logistic reasons.
What is the best way to attach a rafter to a plate to prevent saddleback down the road.
My background is I am a young red seal carpenter with a bachelors in industrial design. I have never built a house with bAloon frame walls or with rafters but I really like the 1 and 3/4 story design.
