I am building a 10 stall barn and am interested in insulation all or part of it for various reasons. The barn is built of rough cut lumber. First, the gable edges get a lot of wind and the animals will surely be cold in those first few stalls. Second, I have a mare who kicks the stall boards, so I want to give her double walls interior and exterior and insulate the 2 inch space in between so she would not get a leg stuck, in the event she would kick through the hemlock boards on the interior or exterior of the building.
As it is a barn, I am interested in finding factory seconds or other reasonably priced 2 inch isulation.
I very much appreciate your suggestions. I am located in Pennsylvania.
kindest regards,
Autumn |

I bought reclaimed 2x8x2" Dow blueboard for $5 each from Tom, who lives near Greenburg in western Pa. 724-727-7325. He is not advertising it currently on Craigslist but he said just before Thxgvg he had thousands in inventory. $5 is roughly 33 percent of retail. |

If there are manufacturers locally, call them.
Otherwise there are recyclers that operate nationally (eg. InsulationDepot.com) If you need a large quantity they'll ship, but if there is a warehouse near you cash & carry works for smaller amounts. It's priced by condition, but for ~1/3 of the price of virgin-goods you can get it in great condition.

Oakleaf, You might try contacting a commercial roofing contractor. My buddy was the contractor on a warehouse renovation in which the old roofing was removed, rock over membrane over dow blue board. I got probably 8-9 hundred feet sq for free. Good Luck ,michael |

I am fascinated with the way barns are built depending on their purpose and which kind of animals would shelter in them. Of course it is advisable to consult the right professionals who specialize in pole barns as well as the materials used for building them. If you are just starting with your own project, might as well browse the local directory and search for friendly contractors that might help you out. |
