Hi:
I'm in SE Arizona building a SIP home with some friends (all avoiding the blizzard-like conditions back home in WV!). We're staying with a cousin, whose adobe brick cottage has roofing problems. One of us is a roofer, and he said the only way to fix the problems is with a rubber system, because the pitch of the roof is nearly zero in places.
So I went to a vendor in Tucson, and got 100x6 foot roll of 45mil TPO rubber and a 5 gallon bucket of adhesive to adhere it to the roof deck (which needed several pieces replaced due to impending failure!!). Sunday when we finished fixing the roof deck, we lifted the roll (~150 lbs) up the the porch roof, and opened the adhesive - it was a really thick brown material that was like pulling taffy to stir.
Directions said 2 minutes of stirring, DO NOT THIN. We stirred for quite a while, and couldn't get it to spread with a roller at all. In a video (youtube) the adhesive was much easier to apply and was yellow. Ours is really sticky, we had to use a putty knife to apply it, and in a hour we got a 6x5 foot section done. Not acceptable!
Does anyone know what is going on here? Should we use acetone or something to resurrect our glue? Maybe with a power-drill driven stirrer?
I'm into 400$ for materials for my cousin's roof, with no progress to report!
Thanks for any suggestions, JR in AZ
