Well we have finally gotten the time to sit down and calculate all the numbers for our swimming pool.

The total materials for the 24X24 pool 4' high came to $7123.80 now we really put alot of rebar in this  and not sure if we needed that much but better safe than sorry this was above ground. Below ground you would also have your excavating cost but could probably use less rebar as you would have natural support. The materials included the pump, heater, and sand filter.

The total labor time on this project was 9 days but I now I could shave some of that off as there where many stop and think sessions.

We have had substantial rain up here in Minnesota so the pool has filled up about 16" so far with no leaks, but with winter coming on we will not totally fill it till spring.

I still can not get the pictures small enough to put them on this site but if you are interested send me your e-mail and I will send them to you.

I just got a quote for pools in MN. 35-50k for steel wall vinyl liner and DOUBLE that for concrete pool 18x36 or so. I think I'll be contracting it myself.

If you want to get fancy, put a radius in that pool wall. And why not put it underground? Just hire an excavator.

The same pool contractor is doing my neighbhorhood concrete pool. redoing the decks and plumbing, coping using existing equipment and shell and that is over 200k, over 100k just for pool refurbishment. We need more options in MN. I think i'm getting into the pool biz ;)

We have a 10' radius and a 45deg wall in our pool.

The reason for this one being above grade is to see if it can be done, and it looks like it can. The savings verses in ground is small as excavating and back fill are not that much.

One more thing to consider in the cold climate, is what frost will do to an unheated pool without water in the winter as it is an unbalanced backfill situation with no floor at the top to support frost push.

That sounds great.  Can you e-mail me some pictures of it?  What do you use for a liner?

I would like to do a built in pool say 20x40.  My main concern is what do I use for a liner?

Thanks

Tom
