Hey All,

I'm starting excavation for a project in Berkeley, CA. We will be using Buildblock forms, 8" core for the basement and 6" core for two storeys above grade. One wall is full of large openings, especially on the lower story. The engineer gave me an agressive rebar schedule (moment frame) that won't fit in a 6" block.

Whats the best way to transition from a 6" to an 8" block?

Thanks

To transition on a corner I use a sheet of 3/4 plywood ripped in 1/2 and secure from the corner inwards, then I use 2 pcs. of 2x6 secured to the plywood then screwed to each other forming an 'L', do the same on the inside of the corner as well.

On the outside try and get a 2x brace on an angle from the ground to the bottom 2' and 4' of the 2x6 this is where the highest pressure points will be during the pour.

ECO, send me an Email in which I will forward to my office. We have details on this transition in BB that will simplify all.
