Have not done this yet but I have a customer interested in doing a pool with ICF. I was hoping to get some help from any of you that have done an ICF pool.

I have looked at it but for the most part it got hijacked by some guy then it turned into a site defending one product vs another product

I have completed 3 pools now with ICF all 3 are above ground pools and have worked very well. Our own pool was the first one that we built, I would post pic's but have not been able to get that to work ( not a computer geek).
Our pools is 4' deep and 24 X 24 with a curved wall and a 45deg wall this is our 3rd or 4th year now with 15000 gallons of water and very happy grand children. When we fill the pool in the spring we have our local Culligan company bring out portable softner tanks hooked in a series ( we have 75 grain water ) our old rubber pool was filled with hard water and took most of the summer to clear up as well as $2500 in chemical, the soft water cost use $220 and $180 in chemical for the season.
Some of the reasons we went above ground where code and the fencining cost for saftey, we already had the slab to build off of,and we are in Minnesota so we drain it each fall any how.
We are planning on building an inground directly behind this one and that was scheduled to begin this year, but with the economic times have decided to put this off untill sales pickup.
Buy the way our estimates from a pool company where over $40,000 to build what we did and counting labor we have less than $6000 into this pool with the heater, filter and pump included.
I have sent pics via e-mail for anyone who would like and that seams to work.

I'm guessing it would take a drawing from an engineer to convince the local building department to permit it, since no pool contractors are going to even consider it.

It would seem the weak spot would be the joint between the bottom of the pool, and the ICF blocks which are stacked on it. This is where gunite pool contractors claim to have an advantage (since what they do is monolithic - there are no seams to leak).

There are CMU block pools, but they usually are vinyl lined. But I would think with the proper waterproofing and the right plaster, you wouldn't need a liner.

Seems like its something like the SAEBI system w/ no rebar?  Wondering what the strength is compared to a traditional gunite pools.

With the cost of heating a pool I'd think there would be more progress on the insulated pool front.  Especially w/ the growth and awareness of ICF, radiant floor, geothermal in dealing with thermal performance.   I guess the pool guys are old school and are resistant to change.  I'd think the time is ripe for some innovation in that industry in a slower more competitive market.  They should be targeting the trades and not necessarily DIY market with something like this. 

I live in MN so maybe in the southern hot climates where most pools are, heating a pool isn't a big issue.

Love to see your pictures. For $6,000 to build an inground pool, it's AMAZING. Did you do the most labor yourself? Did you have to seal all the ICF joints together?
