My old house was made of blockwork on the inside and stone on the outside. The garage was just left as bare blocks on the inside and worked fine. I am about to build a new house using ICF and I don't know what to do with the garage walls.

What do you generally do in the US? Is it normal to leave the bare foam in the garage or do the building regs say that you must cover it? Do you just treat it like any other room and use drywall?

Thanks for your help.

I generally use magnesicore (sp?) around the lower part and finish the top with drywall.

just drywall..screw to plastic tabs... you have to cover ICF's with a 15 min thermal barrier - sheetrock is the cheapest - I think IRC lets you put plywood or metal but they cost more...

I used corrugated sheet metal, I like it and get lots of compliments. I think I attached a photo.

Thanks, but I had just mopped the floor. About the sheet metal wall covering, I used the thin cheap stuff so where I had a bike hanger and can crusher I used diamond tread pieces over the sheet metal for strength.

Nice!

How does it attach to the walls? Doesn't look like there are exposed fasteners.

That looks awesome, I love the idea!  Just curious, did you have any windows to go around?  If so, how did you trim them out?

Looks like a stained concrete floor - is that correct?  Looks really nice!

I used the course thread, 1/4" hex head wood screws that are made to attach the metal to roof trusses. They are attached every 8" in the valleys, whereas on a roof you would attach on the ridges.

No windows, but the doors I used this small "j" channel trim and outside corners got that type of trim. The only thing I would do different, I would skip the angle piece I used where it meets the drywall ceiling.
