I have a couple of lintels above some windows where the bottom bar of the lintel is about half an inch too low if I place the top bar in the ICF rebar cradle. If I place a second top bar in the lintel then this raises the stirrup and raises the bottom bar to the point where it has the right amount of cover.
Other than the expense of a second bar at the top of the lintel is there any reason why I shouldn't do this?
Another option would be to use a few shorter pieces of rebar that would serve exactly the same purpose, i.e. use a few offcuts placed intemittently under the top bar rather than a whole bar. Again, can anybody see why I shouldn't do it?
Thanks for your help.
