We are building a house and out of money…hahahah…..looking for ways to cut cost on dry wall. We are trying to get a temp CofO (Cert of Occupancy). Do we really need to cover all foam in all areas of the house. We are fine with doing it after we get money out of our other house but we need to get into this house first. I believe the foam passes fire part of Nfpa but not the smoke part. So can we do just the living areas and leave out the storage areas and garage? Thanks in advance….

In NY it all has to be covered in order to receive a C.O. There are fire proofing paints that will work.

Yea, I think it all has to be covered. There are some EPEF coatings that meet the code, but I don't think they are that much less expensive than DW...

An advantage to the coatings is that almost anyone can DIY. I think they look amazing.
