We normally use hot dipped anchor bolts for exterior deck connections. Is there a better way?

Make it free standing.

Free standing is not an option. I can't find supporting documentation to satisfy the building official with anchor bolts. Does anybody know of any deck attachment details?

What're you attaching the ledger board to? Wooden structure? SIP? Concrete/ICF?

Basically best attachment method is 1/2" diameter:

Lag Screws (if going through wood)
Carriage or cap bolts (again if going through wood).
Expansion bolts and/or epoxy/adhesive. (Concrete wall.)

If you have cinder blocks, the cores need to be filled with concrete so the bolts and epoxy actually have something to grab onto.

Basically attached in every other joist space. Normally galvanized or stainless.
Same with any washers used if you need to have a spacer to keep the ledger off the wall.

I have engineering for the A-One ICFs to have staggered 1/2" anchor bolts every 12", but that just won't work with 8" web spacing, plus that is a lot of insulation removed. So the building official and I agreed on pairs of anchor bolts 16". What we need is a good outdoor, green treated connector.

Basically, if you're dealing with pressure treated wood, either HDG or stainless is perfectly fine.

Just don't try to mix and match HDG and stainless.

If you're using HDG fasteners, use HDG connectors.
If you're using stainless fasteners, use stainless connectors.

And if you're looking for a fastener/connector provider, when in doubt, go Simpson.

The Simpson ICFVL and its bolts are not for outdoor use. I have found no other. The anchor bolts are fine except they require to much insulation to be removed.
