Hi Everyone,

Just found your site today - and what a great plethora of information abounds.
We are a GC building a SIP's house in Flagstaff - We are trying to find sub's that will bid out putting the panels together and installing prefab trusses.
I have emailed the panel company but none of their leads have worked out, I have called framers in Flag but to no avail.
We have rec'd 3 bids which are very high (too high for the budget) and we cannot find anyone else to install the panels.
Also submitted project on the contractor finder sites - but no returns

Is there anyone/anyplace out there we are missing?

Any help or leads would be appreciated

Gail

Hi Gail,
Have you had any luck finding an installer?  I'm in the same boat, only I'm looking to find a crew to work for to learn how to build with SIPs.  I found the sip school at sipschool.org and think it might be the answer.  Maybe it'd work for you too.  There are lists of recent graduates including phone numbers/email addresses.  There's also 1,2, and 5 day courses available for owner/builders.
Best of luck to you on your home building.   So glad to see people are interested in building with SIPs.

I would start with finding framers and get a stick bid then ask them if it would be more to use 4" thick OSB for the outside walls. The fact that you are using trusses for the roof makes this one a no-brainer. It isn't anything new for the framer. You just need to find one that can think. For the first one consider using precut panels and letting them use the regular stick price telling them that the openings are precut. That should get a smile. Then make sure to follow the grunts around with a glue gun making sure there are enough beads and that they aren't too big. Don't make it more complicated then it is. If a framer can build an arch out of wood, he should be able to put up a fat piece of OSB.

Or work backwards from the bid asking how many people they plan to provide and how fast they can complete the project. Then suggest that you pay them by the hour for the time it takes to do the outside walls. That way if it costs $100 an hour for 5 guys you know what it would cost to buy them for the couple hours it takes to learn on the fly.

I would recomend going with a company that is full service.  i.e. Fabrication, instalation, shop drawings etc.

Precision Panel of Las Vegas & most of the Precision Panel Chain usually deliver full packages.

There are some guys in Las Vegas that are full turnkey operation but I'm not sure if they will take a job from another panel company.  I know they will come out to Bullhead City & Kingman but not sure if they go all the way to flagstaff.

Get me your contact info & I will forward this on to them.

Thanks,

Jeremiah
