I'm in the planning stages for our new house to be built in '09 in Ontario Canada. I am very interested in SIPs and have requested 3 quotes and to date have only received one (all actually are late, requested them 6 weeks ago so I guess the economy is not that bad). The house is a single story bungalow, craftsman style with a 'peek a boo' roof (not a true one that is curved) and is 1610 sq ft. (58'x32'). We were planning to have SIPs for walls and roof. The estimate in CDN is $39,000 with taxes in and includes foam seal, caulking, splines, roof screws, hot knife and foam dispenser kit. This is a more than a little higher than I expected which was in the $23-25,000 before tax, after tax approx. $26-28,000. I'm still waiting on the other quotes but the first one is from a large vendor and am concerned that the price is a little high and makes the consideration of stick framing with sprayed-in foam more attractive. I am not trying to compare the benefits of each, it's just that I want to stay on budget and perhaps SIPs are just not a solution that will fit into mine.

Does this estimate sound reasonable and was it just my lack of information that caused me to under budget? It's a very simple house and I really thought single story with no major dormers would a) easier to construct and b) a smaller budget for SIPs. Oh and this will be a owner build with my brother who is a contractor.

Thanks,
Kyle

I have spent the last 2 years researching the best system for building my next home. I have desided that AAC blocks are the best way to go, especially in cold and hot climates with humidity.
Please research this site and product: http://www.e-crete.com/faq/index.htm   Their are 30 million structures world wide using this system invented in Sweden in 1920. Most homes in Germany are built out of this material, and it is cold in Germany...I've been there in the Winter. **Note: I don't sell a damn thing nor represent anyone except myself. Kyle,

I'm not sure who you have contacted regarding your SIP package, but I'd be happy to help if I can.  We are a distributor for a SIP company and we cover most of Ontario.  If you want to contact me we can discuss getting you a price on everything you need.

One major thing to consider is whether you want to buy 'blank panels' or a complete ready-to-assemble package.  The former will save you money, but the latter will save you a lot of time.

Anyway, please contact me as below and i'd be happy to talk to you.

Thanks

I Kyle,
We are manufacurer of SIP'S Pannel in Quebec, And one reason for the difference in prices is...exchange rate, and transport. Our prices are lower because of this reason, the raw material like the OSB is basically manufacture in Quebec and export in the us.

So we would be please to give a quote.

In most cases, based off of design, our 'complete' EPS SIP packages are being shipped to Edmonton and surrounding areas for $7-8/sqft of wall. Simpler designs could be less. But that includes everything you need cut and detailed minus any bracing and staples/nails. If that helps with an idea of cost.
