I'm contemplating 8" SIP (or perhaps 10" based on budget) roofs and 6" SIP sidewalls for my small ranch-style retirement home.

Can I safely assume for concept/preliminary design that one mid-span beam on each side of the ridge beam is sufficient to span a 28 ft wide roof, 5:12 pitch?   Location is East Tennessee, building zone 4, which has relatively low snow loads.

Not looking for "final engineering" just thinking of where I'd need to conceptually place load-bearing walls or posts.

TIA..

That's what I thought, but wanted to make sure before I proceeded. I'll need to plan for two support posts, it sounds like, in addition to the load-bearing walls I've already put in...

Thanks!
