I have a few questions regarding metal SIPs.
I've yet to come across a detail for a SIP crawl space. Slab on grade seems to be the norm but I was curious if you could take the metal sip from the foundation.
I'm cheap/poor so I'm trying to build as cheaply as possible, but have a home that performs. Having to fir out interior walls is an added expense. What's the most cost effective options in that regard beside hat channel? On the other side of the wall, is it possible, and feasible to utilize the factory finish. What kind of trim would I use to hide the track at the bottom/top, screws at the corners and for floor joists.
Along the lines of cutting cost(specifically with metal SIPs, what advice do you guys have? Build up instead of out? etc.
travisbirch,
Following link shows, metal SIP crawlsspace, and floor, not to be used below grade
steel SIP crawl spacecode requires drywall on the interior, you will need to drywall the interior walls anyway,
the interior partition drywall is the greater expense,
wiring is just not for the low wall receptacles, it is also for higher light switches, ceiling lights/fans
and receptacles at cabinet countertop heights
,steel hi-hat is not expensive and creates a nice wire chase, much easier for the electricaian than trying to fish wires in foam chases,
instead of trying to eliminate the drywall,
focus instead on leaving the panels exposed on the exterior side , leaving panel walls and roof as the finished product, as was done in the New Orleans house
very functional, but always with the option to cover up with conventional cladding at a later date
