If there is any question as to proper charge, especially in a package system, the best bet is to pull it out (recover it) and weigh it back in.

TXV and airflow discrepancies can both mask and falsely indicate charge problems.

This is the guy Waterfurnace recommended. My interest is:
- that I get more life out of this furnace than the one it replaced.
- that my electric bills are lower because the new Waterfurnace is using less electric.
- that Waterfurnace stands behind their warranty.

The furnace is turned off now - I need neither heat nor cooling. I expect I won't know if this 'fix' is successful until it gets cold again.

Thanks for all the comments, this is a great forum.

And thanks to Waterfurnace for sending someone out.

Perhaps I was premature in my gratitude. Today is about the first day I tried to use the Waterfurnace Envision since my last post.

The Waterfurnace Envision NDV049A111CTL does not air condition!

It was 90F outside today, 79F inside the house. I turned the AC on at 10 a.m. By 10 p.m. the inside temp had "dropped" to 76F. Air coming out of the vents was 68F. It was cooler outside so I turned the Waterfurnace off.

I will call the service man tomorrow.

What is the possibility I received a defective unit? I have had many people out to service the Envision, including the person Waterfurnace recommended. It has been installed 6 months and is still not working properly. Does everyone have problems with Waterfurnace Envision NDV049A111CTLs or is it just this unit?

Thanks

There have been a lot of fingers in this "pie" and something as simple as a dislodged control wire could cause it not to cool.
Let's find out what's wrong before crying "bad heat pump".

The Service Man said there is a bad valve, not the first bad valve he has seen on a Waterfurnace...

GreenSWOhio,

We are sorry to hear that you have experienced this failure. Unfortunately, we are unsure which valve you are referring to. Could you please be more specific?

Thank you,

The service man told me that the valve is in the "refrigerant" loop, it is regulated by some sort of metering switch and that it is insulated. These valves have been problematic on Waterfurnaces. He said he "freed it up", removed the insulation (from around the metering device?), and ordered a replacement valve which he expects to receive in a week.

He told me to go ahead & run the AC, that the worst thing that could happen would be that the Exchanger would form a big block of ice and the furnace would turn itself off.

I ran the AC for a day before the temp dropped. Air coming out of the vent was at 46F.

Sounds like a TXV or an expansion valve.

"I ran the AC for a day before the temp dropped. Air coming out of the vent was at 46F"

Are you saying with 46* supply air you could not reduce house temp for a day?

What was humidity?

ColdInNY

I continue to have high electric bills and problems with my Waterfurnace Envision unit. Recommended technicians cannot figure out what is wrong, and Waterfurnace Inc is not as eager to help as I would like them to be.

I started a new topic since my problems are unlikely to be the result of the Waterfurnace Thermostat.

You can see the new thread at:
