Suggests very inefficient heat exchange and very low flow. Supply and return temp for the heat pump is too high, thus inefficient. You need more flow at the load side, meaning on your swimming pool side. |

The specifications quoted are from Pahlen not my system. I agree in that those temps seem high but it seems they are trying to heat a pool in a short period of time. knotet, your writing style and information is hard to follow and understand. I understand that I would lose some efficency by having a second hx, but the one in my hp is copper only and I wouldnt risk it against failure from the pool water. |

It is my understanding that they operate with water temps between 60f and 90f. Typically I would not want to operate the pool at 90f, so I would switch back to the well during these higher temps. But in the fall and spring when water temps are low I would operate it to bring the pool temp up. Currently my pool temp is at 82f in the morning and about 86f in the afternoon with only solar gain. When I install a screen pool enclosure I am going to loose most of that. I agree that a properly set up well is not an issue and had over 15 years on mine before it needed a new pump. |

On the second HX I agree, at first I was against the second external hx thinking I would loose the efficiency, but the internal one is a regular copper and the external ones are cu ni and have a higher flow rate as well. The piece of mind is worth it as long as they are sized correctly. |

I am going to assume that knotET is a spammer or a troll. Brock generally what are the water temps going thru your hp? And how much of a differential do you run between the entering temp and exiting temp. |

Just picking a flat number a 90f pool temp I would see about 105f leaving the hp and 96-97f returning and water temp on the pool side would be 90f incoming and 91f out to the pool. Typically we keep the pool about 87f |

Just guessing why your posts are deleted. Like I said, the numbers quoted are from Pahlen (hx manufacturer)not me, on their sizing of a plate type hx. I am planning on going the route that Brock has with one of the high flow hx's. I will plumb it with both the pool and well circuit so I can switch when the pool temp is to high. The existing internal hx will be used as a loop to the new hx with a small circulating pump and some type of antifreeze. I should be abe to maintain Brocks mean temp of 100F which is only happening towards the peak of summer and I would switch back to well temps after that. There are plenty of times in the spring and fall that pool temps are in the mid 70's. |

I'm with Mike...knotET has bits of great info buried within overburden of almost unreadable prose...kind of sad, actually. |

my eyes must have glazed over by the time he got to the pearl of wisdom...... actually I think I said once that good points were sabotaged with clutter and incessant ravings about the worlds smallest geo manufacturer. |
