All I know is that I walked into a nightmare, nothing lined up and it was a huge pain in the ass. Even if the homeowner/builder went over everything before I started it still would have been a pain in the ass.

phoenix;

I don't doubt you walked into a bad framing job with poor planning. But it does not mean the steel framing is a bad thing.

Sub contractor attitude is everthing too, if a close minded sub perceives problems before starting, I will guarantee there will be problems.
I have seen overhead door subs complaining before they step out of the truck, same company on next house sends different mechanic and not a peep! when he leaves says he prefers steel. When some people step out of their comfort zone it is an immediate perception that there will be problems.

The same can be said for close minded building contrators that have never built with SIPs but will do everything in their power to persuade customers to build conventional because there will be problems. Those contractors brave enough to take the first step into the technology will seldom go back to conventional.

Chris,

I agree with your comments about attitude and comfort zone.  By the way, this same problem can happen with tradespeople and college-educated professionals.  Some of my clients can vouch for this because they have run into this problem while planning their homes.  Notice I did not mention any names or professions.
