Well my sister does uses barometric relief damper. She has one unit installed at her place.

The best solution is to NOT install a monster vent hood, but rather use the ERV system as-is, and simply use a recirculating range hood that filters the air and returns it to the room. The CFM of a proper ERV is enough, and a true sealed house cannot work if you impose a 1200 cfm suction on it. Putting a dedicated return to that big fan introduces all the leaks you tried to eliminate when you went to an airtight design. .
