I know of one Hardie job that "clacks" when the wind blows, it may be the specific brand of ICF used or maybe the gray line does need to be caulked. If you would like to get his(the GC) personal opinion send me an Email and I will give you his number.

KC? I have used Hardi for years both on wood and ICFs, and in fact I have Hardiplank on my own ICF home. I have NEVER heard that Hardi excludes their warranty when installed on ICFs, and I have had the reps out more than once to discuss projects and show other contractors what it's all about. I have had ICF homes in mag articles and newspapers, and there has never been a whisper about "voided warranty"!
Could you provide the name of the person who said this to you so I can follow up?
dg although I have a 7" exposure on my own home, I no longer allow the extreme 7"+ look, mainly due to the required face nailing. Once you have to face nail, you lose the prepainted aspect saving time and money. I suggest you look at this a little closer, and if you still have questions ask Mark P over at the other contractors site.
Just for added info. I discussed the Hardi installtion with the tech guys in CA when I did my home in late 96. At that time they had me use r/s roofing nails, and yes they are available collated, mainly because of the 7" exposure. It has stayed fine all these years. I now use only Max siding guns with 2 3/8 r/s either stainless or hot-dipped, no electro crap. What is nice about the ss is when you need an ocaasional face nail, you don't have to touch it up! |

The way it was explained to me by my local rep was that one of the requirements for the Hardie warranty is that it has to be installed according to Hardie printed instructions. He further explained that Hardie has no printed instructions for installation over ICF, thereby eliminating the warranty. However he certainly had recommendations on how to install Hardie on ICF, what fasteners to use (stainless steel), etc.
I have Hardie on my own house (obviously over ICF), and consistently recommend Hardie (and will continue to) and have never had a problem with Hardie. I don't know anyone who has had a warranty issue. Perhaps I should press on my local rep a bit harder, although the lack of a warranty isn't exactly a stopping point for me. |

"I don't know anyone who has had a warranty issue."......I did, but it had nothing to do with the fastening aspect onto the ICFs!
Hardi took care of the situation, and I still use and recommend Hardi all the time!
I think your rep is incorrect, and when I have time I will call sunny CA and discuss the ICF installation. |
