For my basement waterproofing, I used TAMKO TW-60 peel-and-stick along with TAMKO TWM-1 mastic to seal the edges and laps.

So can EPS come into contact with rubberized asphalt SBS? I thought rubberized asphalt attacks EPS.

I read that Butyl based membranes are more forgiving and don't attack EPS.

So which is better with EPS; rubberized asphalt SBS, Butyl, or polyurethanes?

From my research there is NO clear answer.

Per the manufacturer of EPS: "Polystyrene foam is subject to deterioration when subjected to petroleum-based solvents. Several single-ply membrane systems contain solvents that will attack EPS. Consult the membrane supplier to determine the compatibility of the membrane and installation adhesives with EPS foam."

My Logix rep said no petroleum based products. I would assume he means asphalt type materials. Window Wrap doesn't stick anyway in cold weather.

SOLUTION: Frist off I am not a contractor or pushing any products, but I just wanted to avoid any serious errors made in waterproofing the window bucks as happened in my last house. On my new construction my ICF contractor is using Sealoflex Inc.s Sealoflex CT Pink plus fabric embedded in it and using two coats.

Here is link to website:

http://www.sealoflex.com/node/170

My contractor has used it for years on his ICF / window buck junctions and no problems.. I talked with the engineer at Sealoflex, and he confirmed that this was an approved use of the product that has been used successfully and is an intended use of the product. You can reach them at (843) 554-6466 or find information online. They appear to have a good distribution network, and the product here is readily available.

The story is not quite over because my contractor then fixes the windows to the waterproofed bucks and applies two coats of something he described as R Guard. NOT to be confused with Redgard, the indoor shower waterproofing. I will try to get more specifics and post them here, but he said he has had good luck with it and it is specifically made for waterproofing around windows, etc. Also, what if one intends to nail Hardie Trim around a window or attach hurricane shutter studs? In that case, it was suggested one can simply squirt some polyurethane caulk in the holes (not sure how that would work with nails) OR perhaps the butyl rubber type tape can be applied over the Sealoflex (which is rubber anyway). Sealoflex sells "Seam Tape" which could be used. Perhaps the tape is overkill anyway since there is not likely to be much leaking around the nails or screws in the rubberized Sealoflex.

I am still looking into Grailcoat as an alternate product, but their office assured me that is perfect for ICF. waterproofing applications. I am still awaiting samples, etc. They have a nice website which mentions use with ICF specifically:
