Hey guys and gals, Check out the video of a pour we did in TN. Thanks for watching! Its hard to make concrete "cool" so we had some fun with the music.

Nice vid. Enjoyed the editing and soundtrack. But no hard hats and no guardrails on the scaffold, huh? I guess its not an osha job. |

Its a job way out in the middle of no where. We were in compliance with the 6' fall for guardrails.

Nice video, enjoyed the music too.
You all do ICF roofs as well and/or got connections to incorporate SIP roofs w/ ICF walls? Thanks. |

How was vibration done and was it consistent with Fox Block's recommendations?

I have to agree with jonr, no internal vibration means voids unless you use some secret mix or SCC. A guy tapping the wall with a piece of 2x4 doesn't do it. This site has a lot of newbies following it and this sends the wrong idea that concrete will flow around rebar and webs with no consolidation. When I pour I have 2 guys on the vibrator because it's a b----h of a job and the most important. Great video but bad practice. |

Hey Ryan, you really ought to pull this video. This is a nice video production, but gives the wrong impression for installers. There are no safety precautions: no handrails, no hardhats, only one guy on the scaffold and the wall banger is right beneath the nozzle man ready to get stuff dropped on his ball-capped head. How can you not be internally vibrating this wall? The general public sees this stuff. You should know better. |

Guys, please. We have 30 minutes of raw footage. We edited it down to 3 minutes. We have two 8 foot vibrators that we use. Please stop making accusations that are unfounded. The guy banging the walls was simply checking my pour height so we dont do to high of lifts. Its just a neat video we shot. Its not a how to video. We had two vibrators going at once, and we have made a few cuts in the wall since the pour for utilities and it is as slick as is should be. Again i ask, please stop over reacting, its just a neat video. |

James02, We have never done an ICF pitched roof, but have done a few Insuldeck jobs. Its a great product that you could probably install on a slight pitch. Sips roof would be another good option. There are a few ways to connect the panels to ICF, but I would not say I am an expert on that subject, but I would refer you to another thread on here where guys have some good input on that. That particular thread was from a few months ago, but should be easy to find. |

Ryan, Think about your audience. For very one of us schmucks that post, there are a hundred just reading. Novices who search YouTube for ICF videos will find that and think it's right. But what you're showing them isn't. This is not a game. |

Thanks for your input fellas. Our customers are very pleased with our practice, performance, and product, so that is good enough for me. I am sorry you guys feel the way you do, there will be more videos in the future so please stay tuned. Maybe some how-to videos which you might like that you will find to be very educational for you and the other viewers. Bruce, you should still have my number from when you called a few months ago wanting me to switch to PolyCrete, any further questions or comments regarding our methods please feel free to call. For those people on here that are" just reading", I will spare them by ending this conversation. Thanks guys! Best of luck to all of you. |

Interesting, I randomly picked three more ICF pour videos on Youtube and none showed any consolidation. Evidently all you need to do is add extra water to the mix (that's a joke).
edit:
From the Fox Block installation manual:
Internal vibrator: recommended 1 horsepower and with maximum head diameter of 1 inch or
less.
That means about 1000 watts or more. Also note that it has to be lifted quite slowly - like 16 seconds for 4 feet (try to find that in a video). |

jonr, your right it's a major problem. As for Ryan, I have a few questions for you. The overhead view only shows a Makita cordless vibrator with a 6' whip sitting on the slab. Anyone who has used these know that they have barely enough power to consolidate a shoe box full of concrete let alone almost 11' of it. There are no lead cords or generator to supply power for your invisible 8' vibrators. These would be the first things you would set up before the pour. Next your going to tell us that you use backpack vibrators that don't need external power. Any one who has poured concrete in 80 degree weather knows there is no way you can drive a vibrator down thru 5' of concrete after it has had time to set, unless your going to tell us a retarder was added to your mix . Of course the 8' vibrator would have a hard time making it down 11' anyway. Just a slight story line problem. As far as a how to video for all us unknowing. I think you should stop at 1. This can be labeled, "How Not To". Your adoring customers have no idea that you've screwed them since icf's cover a multitude of sins. I hope some day this doesn't come back to bite you. I think you should take a training course since your video shows you haven't learned the proper way to pour an icf. |

Oh, I forgot. A couple of tips for you. You probably know these already, being the seasoned pro that you are. When doing a multiple height build, go to the dollar store and buy some cheap packing tape and tape off the top of the form so mud doesn't fill the top grooves which will take time and a screw driver to remove. Also when you pour it is easier to give your helper a tactical flashlight like the police use and have him place it against the block at the height that you are trying to fill and when the light is covered your there. Fell free to use these tips in your next video. From one pro to another. |

You guys are great. I would be worried this would bite me in the butt one day if any of the accusations were saying were true. The home owners who are very well versed in ICF, as they are an owner/builder for their new house were very please with our practices. They watched the whole pour, where as you guys watched about 1.5 minutes of the first 10 minutes of the pour. Like i said before, our consolidation is right on the money. The vibrator on the slab is an 8' makita which has been used on many federal jobs and approved by the ACOE (Louisville district). Im not here to bad mouth anyone, it takes to much energy to pick at other people. Im surprised you guys have given me this much thought over a little video. I hope you all arent loosing to much sleep, as I am sure you all are busy with your own projects. I wish you all well hope everyone else realizes that you all saw 1.5 minutes of a pour that lasted about 3 hours and the video isnt a detailed documentary on how to pour concrete, but a few aerial shots and a few close ups. Post script: The homeowner was taking pictures of our pour the whole time, if they have any of us vibrating, I will sure to share them so you guys can stop freaking out over a little video, and go back to working on your own projects. Again, thanks for your input you have all made my day once again. |

Oh, that's alright, I'm a big Sherlock Holmes fan and I like uncovering BS when I see it, especially with a drone supplied video. Now were down to 1 8' Makita cordless vibrator for a 11' wall. Must be a military or federal version. You see I've written several times about how worthless a 1" head vibrator is for icf consolidation. But you don't have to take my word for it go to the Oztec web site and hit their tech section. Now I'm going to do this from memory but here goes. A 1 " pencil vibrator has an area of influence of 4". The recommended drop distance is 6". That means on a lets say a 200 lin ft wall pour you would have to drop that sucker about 400 times per lift of concrete and 800 times for 2 lifts. But it gets better. According to their info. you can expect be able to consolidate up to 3 yards of concrete per hour with a 1" pencil head on their vibrator. As I've asked before is there anyone who pours their icf jobs at 3 Yards of 6 slump concrete per hour? Ryan does your informed icf customers know this fact? Come on Ryan you've got a secret about the concrete that you use and your not sharing. Got to be some form of SCC. |

I enjoyed the video, great idea using an aerial view. I don't check in much here and the nit-picking/whining going on is why. Too bad there's no filter for moaning. Clean job, straight walls, looks good to me. Thanks for posting the video. |
