Hi folks! I live in Ottawa, Canada, and have scheduled a viewing for a 2 story rental townhouse with a geothermal heat pump. I really love the idea of geothermal, but the not-for-profit housing corporation that owns the building told me that electricity bills are $350-$400 CAD per month on average, in part because of the fan that is needed to circulate the hot/cool air from the heat pump around the house. I'm just curious if anyone has an explanation of why the electricity costs are so high? Is this normal? Thanks Alex

Shouldn't need to circulate air is it is design right to evenly distribute the heat while the unit is in heat mode. What brand is it.

$350 isn't that bad with house electric. comes out to 58 kWh at $0.20 per kWh. we use 25 kWh in just electric a day. How many sqft.

Thanks for your reply :) I agree that $350 isn't so bad, however there is also an additional $170/month "geothermal" charge, which I forgot to mention, so those two charges together feel a tad expensive to me. It's about 1100 sqft. The geothermal system was developed by corix and this is the website that talks about it: https://www.corix.com/systems/beaver-barracks/
