General Panel displayed their new hybrid structural insulated panel at the AIA Expo in New Orleans from May 12-14, 2011.  Unlike most panels, this hybrid consists of an EPS core covered by a phenolic fiberglass laminate and MgO.  The double skin on a side increases the strength of the panel.  Initial production will be 4' x 12' by almost any thickness desired and will be shipped from Grenada, Mississippi.  The MgO face is smooth enough to paint or stucco.  Very impressive panel.

I had been looking at their panels before I decided to go with a non-wood SIP. If I had chosen wood they definitely would have been the supplier I would have used. They seem to be a very good company. This sounds like a interesting alternative. do you know when they expect to have it available?

This is John Pardue, I am the inventor of the new SIP, called Composite Span. It is a hybrid panel, using DuraSip phenolic laminates combined with Magnum Board MGO, and is manufactured by General Panel.

The panel is Patent Pending, and we are in the process of code testing.

Due to the strength of the fiberglass laminates, we can achieve just about any strength and span, and the magnum Board is fire rated. The panels will easily pass AC04, Miami Dade, E84, and even E119.

we can also make jumbo panels (8x24) or larger, since the joints in the Magnum Board to not reduce strength, again due to the fiberglass laminates, which can be made 8 feet by any transportable length.

Composite Span panels can be used for anything from fully insulated basement foundations, to residential and even commercial tilt-up construction.

Updates will be coming soon at www.compositehousing.com
