Im wondering how SIPs and Floors attached. Im talking about metal claded sips here. I know that in a normal stick frame home the floors sit on the plate of the top of the wall below them... How does this work with sips?
$50/hr if I do it, $75/hr if you watch, $100/hr if you help!

The metal skin, polyurethane core SIPs that I have used do not sit on a wood floor.  The manufacturer insisted that their SIPs sit in a galvanized C-channel either on a foundation wall or footer.  Metal C-channels were also used to cap the SIPs (top plate).  Hex-head screws were used to attach the SIP to the C-channel.  The framing was more like balloon framing than platform framing.  In other words, a two storey home could be built with tall SIPs and then the floor installed.

Metal skin, polyurethane filled SIPs made on a continuous line can be quite long.  Some companies offer lengths up to 50' +.  Other companies maximum length might be only 12'.  A tall wall can be made with 12' long SIPs but the engineer may prefer that the horizontal joints be staggered so a weakened plane will not be created.

With metal SIPS you can do Balloon framing.  Basically one vertical member from bottom to top plate.  The floor is then fastened in place with a C-channel next to the sip panel/floor edge using long sip bolts.  The sip bolts run from outside, through the sip panel and into the backside of the C-channel (Trufast is one manufacturer).  I did two balloon frame floors (attic and second).  These photos show the attic floor.

Torben,

Are those EPS or PU SIPs?  How long ago was that built?

I used PU Sips, the plant is only about 30 miles from the site.  I did the shell in March/April of 2011.  Placing the walls then attic floor gave me a platform for installing the roof (and the ridge wall to support the roof).  After that I installed the second floor.
