Being just 5 hours north of you, here in Dallas, with a 'down deep' earth temp of 68 degrees that I don't think is more than a degree different than yours, and with a closed loop designed at 300' per ton just like yours, here's what I'm currently seeing:
EWT ranges from 72 to 74 degrees, depending on time of day and load. Or said another way, EWT ranges from 4 to 6 degrees above 'down deep' 68 degrees (you can see this at http://welserver.com/WEL0043/InstantaneousEnteringWaterTempsEWT-with2hrTCfilteronEWTs2.gif )
I would think you'd get similar results with a 300'/ton closed-loop design, assuming adequate diamter HDPE pipe and good installation.
And in another thread, I illustrated that we've experienced about a one-third reduction in our KWH consumption as a direct result of geothermal usage, all else being equal. I would think it's reasonable for you to expect a similar reduction noting we have similar climates.

With our last post 10-7, I advised that three wells were being drilled to replace the loop field. We waited another 3 weeks before the contractor sent someone to connect the wells and abandon the loop. After that, we had several weeks of cool weather such that it was not hot enough for a/c or cold enough to use the heater. We have now had some days where we have used the heat. Incoming water temp is holding at 67 degrees. Will compare Dec and Jan electrical usage to last year for the same months to see what savings we have for the winter months. |

I'm just 5 hours north of you, in a Dallas climate, with a 'down deep' earth temp at 68° F, and with a closed loop in an 8 hole bore field at 300' each per hole. My EWT at the moment is exactly the same as yours: 67°.
I think you're definitely making progress toward a cost effective geothermal implementation!

Having converted the loop field to vertical wells after the loop field failed to attain the desired results, we have a complete month usage to compare to last year. the original geo-thermal with loop fields was installed in July 2008. We converted loop field to vertical wells Nov 2008. Dec 2007 we used 2081 kwh. for the same period this year using the geo-thermal and the vertical wells, usage was 1302. We estimate that comparing heating days for the respective time periods, we would have likely used 1850-1900kwh for this month under the original ac/heat system. So in my opinion the geo-thermal appears to be working as expected. thanks again for the advice and interest. will give another update next month. |
